The Gashadokuro is a spirit who takes the form of a giant skeleton, composed of the bones of those who died on the battlefield or from starvation during war. This "hungry skeleton" roams around after midnight, grabbing lonely travelers and biting their heads to drink their blood. Legend says that the Gashadokuro will continue to hunt its prey until it releases all its pent-up rage, causing the bones to crumble and the skeleton to collapse.
